    About

    Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist:
    – Work with people of all ages who are blind or have low vision to remain safe and independent. They may require training in a mobility aid, e.g. long white cane. The long white cane is a primary mobility aid that alerts the user to changes in the ground surface as they travel through the environment. They may travel within and around their home, or within the community, educational and aged care facilities, crossing roads and/or using public transport.

    – As an O&M Specialist I assess and provide a program to meet the goals of the people I work to maintain safe and confident travel in environment/s they choose. This could include, but not limited to; around their home and community, educational and aged care settings, the planning and safe/efficient use of public transport and smart phone apps.

    Support Work/Disability Support Work:

    – Accompany individuals to shops, attend exhibitions, travel (day trips or overnight stays; local, interstate and international), etc., so they can continue to enjoy and experience taking part in day-to-day activities.
